Why the Navgrah Shani Mandir in Ujjain?
The Navgrah Shani Mandir, also called the Navagraha Temple, Navgrah Mandir Ujjain or Triveni Shani Mandir, stands at Triveni Ghat on the banks of the Shipra, on the Indore road just outside Ujjain city. Shani Dev is the main deity, and each of the nine grahas has its own shrine in the complex.
Local tradition holds that King Vikramaditya built and worshipped here, and that Shani Dev is honoured in the form of Lord Shiva. These are temple legends rather than recorded history, but the temple’s reputation for graha shanti — and especially Shani Sade Sati puja — is well established, and it draws large crowds on Saturdays and Shani Amavasya.
Ujjain itself has long been a centre of Indian astronomy and timekeeping, and is home to the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga and Mangalnath, where Mangal Dosh puja is done.

ब्रह्मा मुरारिस्त्रिपुरान्तकारी भानुः शशी भूमिसुतो बुधश्च ।
गुरुश्च शुक्रः शनिराहुकेतवः सर्वे ग्रहाः शान्तिकरा भवन्तु ॥
