If your family tradition names Gaya, or your father’s Shradh was performed there, go to Gaya. The continuity of your family’s practice matters more than anything we can sell you.
Pushkar is one of the recognised tirths for Shradh and Pind Daan, held sacred around the Brahma temple and Pushkar Sarovar. Its advantage is not that it is holier. It is that during Pitru Paksha, Gaya receives lakhs of pilgrims and the rite becomes something performed at speed, in a queue. Pushkar does not. Your Sankalp is unhurried, your Purohit is not turning to the next family before your prasad is cold, and the video we send you is of a ritual that actually took its time.

The vidhi
What happens on the day
- Snan and preparation. The Purohit bathes and the ghat is laid out — kusha grass, black sesame, barley, ghee, water. On Standard and above, you are on the call by now.
- Sankalp. Your name, your father’s name and your gotra are spoken aloud, along with the ancestors on whose behalf the rite is performed. This is the moment. It is what gives the offering an address.
- Tarpan. Water and black sesame offered to three generations, poured through the pitru tirtha — the space between thumb and index finger, not over the fingertips.
- Pind offering. The pind are formed and offered, one for each generation, on a leaf plate, with the mantras belonging to each.
- Visarjan. The pind are given to the waters of Pushkar Sarovar, or to a cow or a crow, as tradition prescribes.
- Brahmin Bhoj and Daan. Feeding and offerings made in your family’s name. From the Standard tier upward.

Fifteen days set aside entirely for the ancestors. Pind Daan performed within this window carries more weight than at any other time of the year, and the final day — Sarva Pitru Amavasya, 10 October 2026 — is when Shradh may be offered for all ancestors together, including those whose tithi is no longer remembered.
Specific tithis fill from roughly six weeks out. We tell you that as a fact about the calendar, not as a sales tactic — there are fifteen days and a finite number of Purohits. That is arithmetic, not pressure. Reserve a tithi.

Should you do this every year?
Traditionally, yes. Shradh is performed each year on the tithi of an ancestor’s passing — the ordinary, unglamorous maintenance of the ancestral debt. Tradition weighs consistency far more heavily than one expensive rite performed once, in a panic.

Premium adds a senior Purohit, eleven brahmins, and extended Tarpan across all sixteen Pitru Paksha tithis.
Is Pind Daan at Pushkar as valid as at Gaya?
Pushkar is one of the recognised tirths for Shradh and Pind Daan, held sacred around the Brahma temple and Pushkar Sarovar. Gaya is the more famous site, and if your family tradition names Gaya, honour that. Pushkar’s practical advantage is that it is far less crowded during Pitru Paksha, so the rite is performed unhurried rather than in a queue.
Do I need to travel to Pushkar?
No. The rite requires your Sankalp — your name, your father’s name and your gotra, spoken aloud by the Tirth Purohit at the correct muhurat. From the Standard tier you join by video call from anywhere in the world, and receive the recording, photographs and prasad afterwards.
When is Pitru Paksha in 2026?
Pitru Paksha 2026 runs from Saturday, 26 September to Saturday, 10 October 2026. The final day is Sarva Pitru Amavasya, on which Shradh may be offered for all ancestors together — including those whose tithi is no longer known.
We do not know our ancestor’s tithi. Can we still perform Pind Daan?
Yes. Sarva Pitru Amavasya — 10 October 2026 — exists precisely for this. Shradh performed that day is offered for all ancestors, known and unknown, remembered and forgotten. Losing the tithi after a generation abroad is common, and the tradition made room for it a very long time ago.
Can a daughter perform Pind Daan?
Yes. There is scriptural precedent, and we perform it. If a Purohit tells you otherwise, that is his view rather than a settled rule — and you are entitled to seek another Purohit. We will not turn away a daughter who wishes to offer pind for her father.
What is the cheapest remedy for the ancestors?
Free. Tarpan — water with black sesame, poured facing south with your ancestors named — requires no priest, no booking and no money. Tradition weighs these daily acts heavily. Paid rites supplement them; they do not replace them.
